Participatory language documentation

Professor Dr. Birgit Hellwig (University of Cologne) offered exciting insights into participatory language documentation. Over two presentations, she explained how researchers can work together with local communities to collect data and create sustainable infrastructures that serve both academic and community purposes. Examples from Papua New Guinea and Sudan showed how participatory approaches can succeed on an equal footing. In the afternoon, participants developed their own ideas in a workshop setting and discussed ways of integrating participatory research into their own projects.
